Josef Arnz

Josef Arnz (* 1792 in Düsseldorf ; † 1841 ibid) was a German lithographer , cartographer , publisher and co-owner of the Düsseldorf publishing house Arnz & Comp.

Life

Arnz was baptized on February 21, 1792 in the Lambertus Church in Düsseldorf with the first name Gottfried Joseph Hubert Maria . With his older brother Heinrich and the music dealer Johann Christian Winckelmann (1766-1845) is Arnz teamed up in 1815 to 1 October 1816 Dusseldorf the company Arnz & Winckelmann as lithographic institute , publishing house and printing office to start. The company initially established itself as a printing company for forms, cards, school and pocket atlases and picture sheets and rose to become one of the leading art publishers in German-speaking countries. In 1828 the co-partner Winckelmann left the company.

Arnz 'focus was on the development of maps, which he published from 1817 as single copies and in the form of atlases. When Arnz died in 1841, he left a widow and an underage daughter as well as a house on Dammstrasse in Düsseldorf.
