Josef Bürgi (born August 17, 1864 in Arth ; † August 20, 1932 there ) was a liberal politician in the Swiss canton of Schwyz .

biography

The trained farmer took over his father's cattle trading business in 1891. In addition to his political career, he made a name for himself as a cattle breeder and dealer. In 1888 he was the king of wrestling at the Swiss Federal Gymnastics Festival in Lucerne . He was a successful promoter of brown cattle breeding and alpine farming .

In 1896 he was in the council and in 1898 the mayor elected by Arth. 1888-1904 he was in the district council of Schwyz . 1902–1904 he served as district administrator. 1904–1908 he was in the Cantonal Council. As a national councilor from 1919 to 1928 he was - although elected on the lists of the Liberal People's Party (then the name of the Schwyz FDP section) - a member of the parliamentary group of the farmers, trade and citizens' party .
