Josef Barth (born March 17, 1842 in Fronsburg , Austrian Empire ; † October 20, 1916 in Brixen ), also Josef Bart, was a barrel painter , gilder and restorer in South Tyrol .

Life

Josef Barth trained as a barrel painter and gilder in Vienna. In the 60 years he emigrated to South Tyrol where he first worked at Haselwander in Bozen and in 1864 he settled in Brixen. In the art and industry exhibition in Innsbruck in 1878 he exhibited an altar. In 1866 he took part in the war against Italy in a rifle division. Was called to Val Gardena around 1870 and married a Val Gardena native Maria Elisabeth Sanoner sister-in-law of the painter Josef Moroder-Lusenberg on June 21, 1875 . The marriage resulted in nine children, three of whom learned the carpentry trade. The brother Johann Barth (1847–1911) was a cabinet maker and married Amalia Metz, a woman from Val Gardena.
