Josef Bidlingmaier

Josef Bidlingmaier (born December 25, 1870 in Straßdorf near Schwäbisch Gmünd , † January 20, 1967 ) was a German watch manufacturer and founder of the Bifora watch factory .

Career

Bidlingmaier learned the craft of goldsmith in Switzerland . His wandering years took him to the United States for almost seven years . After his return in 1900, he founded a special factory for wristwatches in Schwäbisch Gmünd from humble beginnings and led it to an internationally recognized company with at times more than 1000 employees.

His hometown Schwäbisch Gmünd awarded him in 1960, “for his 90th birthday in recognition of his entrepreneurial life's work, his lively social activities and for the special promotion of the industrial life of the city and the consolidation of its good reputation at home and abroad through the work generated by his company Bifora wristwatches ” , honorary citizenship . He was buried in the Leonhard Cemetery in Gmünd .
