Josef Brunhart (policeman)

Josef Brunhart (born August 14, 1905 in Balzers ; † May 14, 1984 in Vaduz ) was a Liechtenstein police officer and the police chief of the Princely Liechtenstein Security Corps .

Life

Josef Brunhart, born in the Gasthof Engel in Balzers as the son of Engel host Andreas Brunhart and his wife Aloisia (née Lampert), grew up with nine siblings. He was a citizen of the municipality of Balzers. After attending secondary school in Vaduz, he completed a police training course at the Austrian gendarmerie school in Bregenz . From April 1933 he was one of seven police officers in the newly established security corps. In the autumn of the same year he became its first director. In 1966 he took early retirement due to illness. During his more than 30-year police career, he played a key role in building up the Liechtenstein Security Corps.

In 1934 he married Hildegard Hilti. The marriage had six children. In 1959 he was awarded the Golden Merit of the Republic of Austria .
