Josef Bucher (liberal)

Josef Bucher (born December 27, 1815 in Escholzmatt ; † December 26, 1888 there ) was a Swiss politician . From 1854 to 1863 and from 1865 to 1872 he was a member of the National Council.

biography

After finishing school, Bucher took over his father's inn in Escholzmatt. In addition to his work as an innkeeper, he was President of the District Court of the Entlebuch Office from 1854 to 1885 , and from 1860 to 1888 the treasurer of the Lucerne Cantonal Bank . From 1873 to 1875 he was also a member of the board of directors of the Bern-Lucerne Railway .

Bucher was close to the liberals and was elected to the Grand Council of the Canton of Lucerne in 1847 , to which he belonged continuously until 1884. After the surrender of Lucerne in the Sonderbund War , he was a member of the provisional cantonal government . He ran for the National Council elections in 1854 and was elected in the Lucerne-South constituency. In 1863 he resigned, but moved back to the National Council in a by-election in January 1865 and was a member of it for another seven years. In the National Council he campaigned in particular for the economic interests of the Entlebuch region .
