Josef Carl Grund
Josef Carl Grund (born February 18, 1920 in Dürnberg , Erzgebirge , † September 27, 1999 in Nuremberg ) was a German writer who was best known in the field of youth literature .
Life
Basic studied pre- and early history and ancient languages. Later he worked as a teacher and took part in archaeological excavations.
Eventually he shifted his professional focus entirely to writing. In 1951, his first book was published with the Wild West novel The Colorado Red Shark: Colt-Joe . In the almost 50 following years of his writing activity, Grund wrote over 100 books , 32 plays as well as radio and television plays . He wrote plays , novels , travel literature and children's books . He achieved particular fame through his factually well-founded historical novels for young people. The historian Grund linked his own historical interest and knowledge with content that a v. a. appeal to younger audiences (e.g. childhood and youth in the Roman Empire , see, for example, hostages for Caesar ). Grund first visited the historical places in which he wanted to have his novels set.
His works were z. Some of them have been translated into 17 languages and have been awarded various prizes. He was also elected a corresponding member of the German Academy for Children's and Young Adult Literature .
