Josef Dischner

Josef Dischner (born September 26, 1872 in Karlsruhe , † December 30, 1949 in Weimar ) was a German actor , theater director and artistic director .

Live and act

Dischner began his career in 1892 at the Hoftheater Stuttgart. This was followed by engagements at the Stadttheater in Eisenach and at the Meininger Hoftheater , to which he belonged from 1905 to 1908. He then worked at venues in Bern , Königsberg (Neues Schauspielhaus) and Hanover (Deutsches Theater). His early character roles include Traumulus, Wurzelsepp, Prell, Wettingen, Marinelli and Shylock . Dischner later switched to directing, became senior director and, from 1912, headed the Deutsches Theater in Libau for several years .

In the 20s and 30s, Dischner occasionally took part in movies, but never got beyond episode roles. At the age of 65, he retired with the actress Margarete Dischner, born in August 1933, until her death. Franke, married artist retired.

Most recently, the actor lived in seclusion at the Marie-Seebach-Stift in Weimar, where he was chairman for twelve years. An obituary stated: “This lovable colleague was the walking theater chronicle. His lively correspondence connected him with an infinite number of colleagues. His rich knowledge and his theatrical enthusiasm fertilized the intellectual life in the pen in the best sense. "
