Josef Gangl (born August 25, 1868 in German Beneschau , Bohemian Forest , † September 6, 1916 in Vienna ) was an Austrian actor and writer. He was best known as a Bohemian Forest poet.

Gangl lived in great poverty in Vienna. His stories and novels deal with topics from the Bohemian Forest. The most important work is the novel The Last Tree , which describes the decline of a peasant family.

Gangl was buried in an honorary grave in the Baumgartner Friedhof (group 22, number 360). A memorial plaque on his former home in Schönbrunner Strasse in Vienna- Meidling commemorates him. The Josef-Gangl-Gasse in Vienna- Hietzing was named after him in 1932.
