Josef Groebmer

Josef Mathias Gröbmer (also Joseph , also Josef Anton , also Gröbner ; born February 5, 1815 in Bruneck , † September 21, 1882 in Haidhausen near Munich ) was an Austrian sculptor .

Life

The son of a day laborer studied sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich from 1835 . He was a student of Ludwig Schwanthaler and later his collaborator on the model for the Tilly statue for the Feldherrnhalle and the gable groups of the Propylaea in Munich. He worked in Munich and went blind towards the end of his life. In addition to monuments and architectural sculptures, he created numerous religious sculptures for Bavarian and Tyrolean churches.
