Josef "Sepp" Höß (2009)

Josef Höß , called "Sepp" , (born May 15, 1936 in Rottach-Egern ) is a German regatta sailor and world champion in sailing.

Life

Josef Höß's parents owned a hotel in the bay of Rottach-Egern. After school he learned the trade of confectioner . From 1955 to 1961 he went to sea as a cook's mate , first to South America and later to Hong Kong . He then worked in the family business as a pastry chef.

Sailing career and successes

Höß began his sailing career in 1945. After the youth boat classes, he drove Flying Dutchman , Dyas , Kielzugvogel and Tempest .

He has won the following titles:

  • 1966: 1st place at the German championship Kielzugvogel
  • 1970: 1st place at the German Tempest Championship
  • 1976: 1st place at the German Championship Kielzugvogel
  • 1977: 2nd place at the Tempest World Championship
  • 1978: 2nd place at the Tempest World Championship
  • 1982: 3rd place at the Tempest World Championship
  • 1983: 1st place at the Tempest World Championship
  • 1984: 1st place at the Tempest World Championship
  • 1987: 1st place at the German championship Dyas

He also won the “ Centomiglia ” twice on Lake Garda .

He was on the board of the Yacht Club at Tegernsee for 36 years , including 24 years as chairman. This office gave up in 2009.

Honors

After giving up his position as board member of the Yacht Club at Tegernsee , he became an honorary member there.

In 2010, Josef Höß was awarded the Bavarian Prime Minister's Badge of Honor for his services .

In 2011 Höß received the Rottach Citizen Medal.
