Josef Helmschrott

Josef Helmschrott (born January 1, 1915 in Göggingen ; † September 14, 2005 in Gersthofen ) was a German politician ( CSU ).

Helmschrott attended secondary school in Augsburg , where he graduated from high school in 1935. He joined the labor service and studied philosophy and history in Dillingen and at the University of Munich . In 1938 he was called up to the mountain troops. During World War II he was deployed with the 1st Mountain Division in Poland , France and Russia , from 1942 he was active in a radio reconnaissance and deciphering department in southern France and North Africa, most recently as a first lieutenant, from 1943 to 1946 he was in the US American prisoner of war. After the war he passed an interpreting exam and worked with a German group in rocket development.

In December 1946, Helmschrott was elected full-time mayor of the outskirts of Gersthofen. The following year he joined the CSU. He was a district council member, parliamentary group chairman and member of the district committee as well as district chairman of the CSU. From 1954 to 1974 he was a member of the Bavarian State Parliament .

In 1965 he was awarded the Bavarian Order of Merit.
