Josef Ignaz Omlin

Josef Ignaz Omlin (born September 21, 1825 in Sarnen ; † February 28, 1916 there ) was a Swiss politician and judge.

Josef Ignaz Omlin was the son of Josef Omlin, blacksmith and councilor, and his wife Marie Josefa Stockmann, daughter of Landammann Josef Ignaz Stockmann . He married Anna Marie Müller.

Omlin completed a few years at the Sarnen High School and was a blacksmith by profession. As an officer he took part in the "Prussian Campaign" in 1856/1857 during the occupation of the border.

He held his first public office in the corporation Freileil. From 1853 to 1911 he was a conservative parish councilor , whose president he was from 1884 to 1907. From 1853 to 1884 he was a member of the Sarner municipal council , which he chaired eight times. From 1850 to 1857 he worked as a triple council and from 1857 to 1906 as Obwalden Land and Cantonal Council , whose president he was from 1884 to 1885. From 1868 to 1906 he served as Councilor , where he in 1897, 1899 and 1901 Landammann was.

Omlin was a canton judge from 1864 to 1868 , an auditor and cassation judge from 1868 to 1903, and an interrogator from 1868 to 1911 . He was also a witness from 1864 to 1872 and a war council from 1866 to 1867.
