This list shows members of the government council of the canton of Obwalden . The government council is the executive body ( executive ) of the canton of Obwalden . It has had five members since 2002 and meets once a week in the town hall in Sarnen .

Landammann

The President of the Government Council is called Landammann , the Vice-President Landstatthalter . The bailiff was in each of the spring agricultural community through open in May or April show of hands elected by the people. The term of office lasted until the next spring parish. Since the abolition of the Landsgemeinde in 1998, the Landammann and Provincial Governor have been elected by the Cantonal Council at its constituent meeting in the last week of June. The term of office is one year. A Landammann cannot be re-elected for the next term of office, but can hold the office of Landammann four times.

The government council is elected by the people for four years in a majority voting process.

Term of office 2018 to 2022

The last general renewal election took place on March 4, 2018. The previous councilors Niklaus Bleiker and Franz Enderli were no longer running. In the first ballot, the remaining three previous members of the government were confirmed: Josef Hess (independent) with 11,111 votes, Christoph Amstad (CVP) with 10,239 votes and Maya Büchi-Kaiser (FDP) with 7,732 votes. In the second ballot on April 8, 2018, Christian Schäli (CSP) won the remaining two seats with 6,974 votes and Daniel Wyler (SVP) with 5,487 votes, the latter just ahead of Michael Siegrist (CVP) with 5,458 votes. The term of office is from July 1, 2018 to June 30, 2022.

Term of office 2014 to 2018

For the 2014 to 2018 term of office, the election took place on March 9, 2014, with Maya Büchi-Kaiser being newly elected to the council, replacing the government councilor Esther Gasser Pfulg , who was no longer in office . The term of office was from July 1, 2014 to June 30, 2018. Christoph Amstad replaced the resigned Hans Wallimann on July 1, 2016 and Josef Hess replaced the resigned Paul Federer on July 1, 2017 . Both were elected by silent vote.
