Theodor Wirz (born August 21, 1842 in Sarnen ; † September 13, 1901 there ) was a Swiss politician ( Catholic Conservative ).

biography

Theodor Wirz was the brother of Adalbert Wirz , the son of Franz Wirz , nephew of Josef Simon Etlin and great-nephew of Nikolaus Hermann . All four were - like him - Landammans of the canton of Obwalden .

Wirz attended the college in Sarnen and the Lyceum in Dillingen an der Donau . He completed a law degree at the universities in Basel , Freiburg i.Ü. and Freiburg i.Br.

Wirz remained single.

Offices

In 1867 Wirz became a member of the Obwalden Triple Council, from 1868 to 1901 he was a cantonal councilor , which he presided over in 1872, 1878 and 1881. From 1868 to 1876 he was a member and president of the lower cantonal courts, from 1885 president of the court of appeal and cassation and 1901 of the higher court. Between 1868 and 1900 he was a member and several times President of the Citizens' Community and Residential Council of Sarnen.

Wirz was Obwalden government councilor from 1876 to 1901 , eleven times as landammann . In 1871/1872 he was a member of the National Council and from 1872 to 1901 a member of the Council of States , which he presided over in 1885.

Wirz was president of the Catholic-Conservative parliamentary group of the Federal Assembly from 1885 to 92 and in 1888 he was the Federal Minister's envoy to the Pope to regulate the Ticino diocese question . In 1861 he was a member and from 1867 to 1868 central president of the Swiss Student Association .

In 1870 he was a co-founder and then a long-term employee of the Obwalden Volksfreund . From 1886 to 1901 he was Chairman of the Board of Directors of Obwaldner Kantonalbank .
