Josef "Pepi" Kaderka (born June 22, 1910 in Vienna ; † January 18, 1993 ) was an Austrian musician and songwriter .

Life

Kaderka learned in childhood, the zither and later violin and drums. After successfully completing an apprenticeship as a typesetter at Herold-Verlag, he played in various bands. In 1936 he married. In 1940 he was drafted into the Wehrmacht and stationed at the music corps in Malacky, Slovakia. He also worked for the front theater and played with Hilde Krahl , Jane Tilden and Richard Eybner , among others . During this time he also began to write his first lyrics to songs, such as “Heiliger Ulrich, you know mei 'Lad” (music: Fred Schelling ). After the war he was a member of Ferry Hecht's chapel for 16 years and devoted himself increasingly to writing Viennese songs. Kaderka played in a trio with Hans Englinger and Schnabl and later with Englinger and Raska, with whom he toured Europe, among other places. He wrote over 1,000 Viennese songs and hits, some of which gained great popularity.

He has received numerous prizes and was awarded, among other things, the Golden Sign of Merit of the State of Vienna . In 1999 the Josef-Kaderka-Park in the 17th district was named after him.

Kaderka was buried in the Ottakringer Friedhof (MK-4-25) in Vienna.
