Josef Kaltenbrunner

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Josef Kaltenbrunner (born January 22, 1888 , † 1951) was an Austrian national soccer player . The goalkeeper was twice champion with SK Rapid Wien and played 11 international matches for the Austrian national soccer team from 1907 to 1913, with which he also took part in the Olympic Games of 1912.

Career

Josef Kaltenbrunner began his career in Rudolfsheim at Rapid , where he did not become a regular goalkeeper until 1907, but only played in the Austrian national team a few months later . The background was that the big Viennese clubs had fallen out with the association, so they did not send any players to the international match against Hungary on May 5, 1907. The ÖFV therefore handed over the organization of the international game to the then small club Rapid, which now provided seven players. Surprisingly, this team was able to win 3-1, so that, among others, goalie Josef Kaltenbrunner began a longer national game career.

Problems with Rapid - the club got into debt and lost its place - ensured that the now six-time national player moved to Vienna in 1910 . In time for the introduction of the new league championship of the ÖFV for the 1911/12 season , however, he returned to Rapid, where he was able to become Austrian champions twice with a young team in 1912 and 1913 . Josef Kaltenbrunner was also in the national team at the Olympic Games in Stockholm in 1912 as the second man behind Otto Noll . After being eliminated in the quarter-finals, he was used in the subsequent consolation tournament in the games against Italy (5: 1), Norway (1: 0) and Hungary (0: 3). His last international match was against Italy on June 15, 1913. The conscription as a soldier at the beginning of the First World War finally ended his career.
