Josef Müller (Hotelier)

Josef Müller (born October 27, 1820 in Gersau ; † February 26, 1897 there , Catholic , entitled to live in Gersau) was a Swiss hotelier and politician (Liberal Party) .

biography

Josef Müller was born on October 27, 1820 in Gersau as the son of Balthasar Müller and Helena, born Henseler. After attending schools in Zug and Freiburg , Müller continued his education in the hospitality industry .

In 1841 he took over the Gasthaus Sonne and in 1844 the Hotel Rigi-Scheidegg, which he had expanded in three stages, namely in 1853, 1868 and 1870. In 1872 he finally sold his company to Regina Montium AG. In 1861 Josef Müller acquired the Hotel Drei Kronen in Gersau, which was converted into the Hotel Müller between 1863 and 1864. Josef Müller is considered the Gersau hotel pioneer of the 19th century.

He married Regina, nee Camenzind, in 1842. Josef Müller died on February 26, 1897, four months after he had turned 76 in Gersau.

The liberal politician held office at the local level from 1854 to 1870 as a district councilor from 1866 to 1868 as governor and from 1868 to 1870 as ammann of the Gersau district . At the cantonal level, Müller was a member of the Schwyz Cantonal Council between 1849 and 1896 .
