Josef Mayburger
Josef Michael Mayburger (born March 30, 1814 in Straßwalchen ; † November 2, 1908 in Salzburg ) was an Austrian painter , teacher and local politician.
Life
Born the son of a schoolmaster, he experienced hardship in the period after the French wars and lost his parents at the age of fourteen. Nevertheless, after completing a business apprenticeship, he managed to attend the teachers' seminar in Salzburg, became a teacher and finally a professor at the Salzburg secondary school. From 1862 to 1869 he was also a member of the Salzburg City Council and made a name for himself as the savior of many Salzburg monuments.
As a landscape painter , he achieved fame especially in his later years. His mountain and urban landscapes are characterized by precision and clear lines as well as an impressive play of light.
The City Beautification Association he co-founded in 1862 still exists today under the name City Association Salzburg .
In 1924, Mayburger also received recognition from the city of Salzburg when the lower right bank of the Salzach was named Josef-Mayburger-Kai .
