Josef Mayrhofer (chemist)

Josef Mayrhofer (born August 13, 1848 in Kindberg , Styria , Austrian Empire ; † March 12, 1930 in Magdeburg , Province of Saxony , German Empire ) was an Austrian chemist who worked primarily in food chemistry .

Life

Josef Mayrhofer was born on August 13, 1848 in Kindberg in Upper Styria. After studying at the Universities of Graz and Munich , he subsequently worked as an assistant at various scientific institutes. From 1882 to 1889 he worked at the State Research Institute for Food and Beverage in Erlangen and then appeared from 1890 to 1921 for over 30 years as head of the Chemical Research Office for the province of Rheinhessen in Mainz . Under his leadership, the office grew from humble beginnings into an extensive institute. One of his main areas of responsibility was wine research or wine chemistry .
