Josef Naudascher (born May 14, 1930 in Mahlberg ; † August 5, 2014 ) was a German historian and local researcher . He made significant contributions to the historical and archaeological development in Ortenau and was an honorary citizen of the city of Mahlberg. Naudascher was a co-founder of the Upper Rhine Tobacco Museum Mahlbergand for many years its honorary director. His numerous discoveries included the Kappel Celtic grave, the Friesenheim Roman settlement and the Roman estate in Niederschopfheim. As a volunteer representative of the Baden-Württemberg State Monuments Office, he documented many finds from the Ortenau region. Naudascher died in 2014.

Life

Josef Naudascher completed an apprenticeship as a precision tool mechanic and then embarked on a career in civil service at the telecommunications office.

Since 1974 he has been writing on the prehistory and early history of Ortenau literature, a. a. in Die Ortenau (publications of the Historical Association for Middle Baden ), in the history book Between the Rhine and Black Forest , Daheim im Ortenaukreis and published numerous articles in the daily press.

From 1970 to 1973 he was chairman of the Ettenheim member group of the Historical Association for Central Baden. From 1972 to 1997 he headed the archaeological working group in the historical association. In 1986 he was made an honorary member.

From 1981 to 1990 he headed the support group for the Upper Rhine Tobacco Museum in Mahlberg. From 1992 he ran the museum on a voluntary basis, which he carried out with a short break until 2012.

Honors

  • 1984 Award of the Cross of Merit on Ribbon of the Federal Republic of Germany , for services in the prehistory and early history of the Ortenau, especially the Roman era
  • In 1986 he became an honorary member of the Historical Association for Central Baden, in recognition of the "great contribution to the history of the Ortenau"
  • In 2001 he received the Ortenauer Heimatpreis
  • In 2003 he was granted honorary citizenship of the city of Mahlberg
  • In 2017 the museum forecourt in the city of Mahlberg was named after him.
