Josef Noa
Josef Noa (born October 21, 1856 in Nagybecskerek , † June 1, 1903 in Budapest ) was an Austro-Hungarian chess master .
Noa did not win a major tournament, but he beat a number of the strongest chess players of his time, such as Tschigorin , Mason and Blackburne in Vienna in 1882, Bird twice in London in 1883, Gunsberg in Hamburg in 1885 , Zukertort and Mackenzie in Frankfurt am Main in 1887, and Maróczy in Budapest 1896.
Noa was a judge by profession . He founded the Neusatz chess club and headed it for a long time as chairman.
His best historical rating was 2583.
