Josef Pfeifer

Josef Pfeifer (born June 9, 1942 in Lind) is an Austrian politician and former President of the Austrian Federal Council .

After attending secondary school, Pfeifer learned the trade of industrial clerk from 1956 to 1959 and worked as an employee in a wood fiber board plant from 1959 to 1972.

He was politically active as district party secretary of the SPÖ from 1972 to 1974 in St. Veit an der Glan and then until 1979 in Völkermarkt . That same year he was the contract staff of the Carinthian provincial government and was founded in 1985 on leave .

In the market town of Eberndorf , Pfeifer was a member of the local council from 1970 and became mayor in 1982.

As an SPÖ politician, he was a member of the Austrian Federal Council from 1994 to 1999. On June 1, 1996, he was elected President of the Federal Council and remained so until December 31.
