Josef Rupert Geiselmann

Josef Rupert Geiselmann (born January 27, 1890 in Neu-Ulm , † March 5, 1970 in Tübingen ) was a Roman Catholic theologian with a focus on dogmatics and the history of theology.

Life

Josef Rupert Geiselmann studied philosophy and theology at the Catholic Theological Faculty of the University of Tübingen. He was ordained a priest on July 6, 1915, after which he worked for four years in pastoral care . After that he became a repetitee in Tübingen and in 1934 a full professor. From 1933 to 1945 he was rector of the Catholic theological faculty in Tübingen. The most important of his students is the cardinal of the Curia, Walter Kasper . Geiselmann retired at the age of 69. He died on March 5, 1970.

Geiselmann advocated the thesis in several publications that the fathers of the Council of Trent did not want to define any material writing sufficiency. He learned of opposition from Heinrich Lennerz SJ. This debate was also reflected in the Second Vatican Council and in post-conciliar theology.

Geiselmann had been an honorary member of the Catholic student association AV Guestfalia Tübingen since 1928 .
