Josef Sedelmayer
Josef Sedelmayer (born November 14, 1933 in St. Pölten ; † October 29, 2016 ) was an Austrian table tennis player . He was one of the best players in Austria in the 1950s and 1960s.
Career
Josef Sedelmayer played with the clubs ESV St. Pölten (from 1946), in the 1950s and 1960s with BBSV (Bundesbahn-Sportverein) Vienna in the state league and later with SV Vienna and SV Schwechat , which he helped to achieve several promotions as a player-coach .
Sedelmayer was Austrian individual champion in 1955 and 1957 . There are also several front placements:
- 1957: Victory in doubles with Ernst Wagner, victory in mixed with Trude Hübl
- 1959: 2nd place in doubles with Viktor Hirsch
- 1960: 2nd place in the individual
- 1965: 2nd place in singles, victory in doubles with Günter Heine
In 1964 he won the ÖTTV ranking tournament. Between 1957 and 1965 he took part in four world championships and twice in European championships (1958, 1962). He never came close to medal ranks.
After the end of his time as a top player, he became club manager of SV Schwechat and couch of SVS Lower Austria in 1971 . Under his direction, the men's team of SV Schwechat marched after repeated promotions from the 2nd district class to the Austrian Bundesliga. He also trained Werner Schlager , whose successes, according to experts, bear the signature of Josef Sedelmayer. From 1972 Sedelmayer won several state championship titles among senior citizens.
In 2006 Sedelmayer was honored with the golden medal of honor of the Austrian table tennis association ÖTTV for his services .
