Joseph Spacil

Josef Spacil , (born January 3, 1907 in Munich ; † February 13, 1967 there ) was German SS-Standartenführer , commander of the Security Police and the SD Netherlands , SS economist at the Higher SS and Police Leader Russia South and head of Office Group II (Organization, administration and law) of the Reich Security Main Office at the time of National Socialism .

Life

Josef Spacil trained as a payroll clerk and married Marianne Behrens, who was born in Mannheim on December 23, 1907.

Spacil became a member of the SS (SS No. 6.797) on April 10, 1931. He joined the NSDAP ( membership number 1.200.941) in 1932.

On October 1, 1932, Spacil was awarded the officer rank of SS-Untersturmführer . The promotion to SS-Obersturmführer took place on August 23, 1933, to Hauptsturmführer on November 9, 1933 and to SS-Sturmbannführer on November 9, 1934. On September 13, 1936 Spacil received the rank of Obersturmbannführer. In the general SS, Spacil rose to SS-Standartenführer on March 12, 1938.

Spacil was already active in the SS administration from 1931. From 1934 Spacil was used in the staff of the Reichsführer SS . A year later he moved to the SS main office . In the staff of the SS Upper Section of the Danube, he was deployed as SS economic and administrative leader from 1938, before he was assigned to the 1st SS Totenkopf Rider Standard from December 12, 1939 to February 28, 1940. Further stations in his official career were from March 1 to March 31, 1940, his activity as staff leader of the chief of the SS Economic and Administrative Main Office (WVHA), SS-Obergruppenführer Oswald Pohl , and an assignment in the SS administration school Dachau from April 1 until June 21, 1940.

After the campaign in the west , Spacil was used for nine months from June 22, 1940 to March 12, 1941 as commander of the Security Police and SD in the occupied Netherlands and returned to the staff of the Reichsführer SS on May 1, 1941, where he was until August 1, 1941 remained.

After the beginning of the German-Soviet War , Spacil was employed by the Higher SS and Police Leader (HSSPF) Russia North from August 1, 1941 to October 15, 1941 in Riga. He joined the HSSPF Russia South as an SS economist on October 26, 1941 and switched to the WVHA on June 21, 1942, until he returned to the HSSPF Russia South as an SS economist on August 1, 1942.

From March 1, 1944, Spacil took over as the last boss of Office Group II (Organization, Administration and Law) of the Reich Main Security Office . On April 20, 1944 he was promoted to SS-Standartenführer of the Waffen-SS .

For the Nuremberg trial of the main war criminals , he was questioned on November 9, 1945 on the terms "resettlement" and " special treatment " in the case of the former chief of the security police Ernst Kaltenbrunner .

After the war, Spacil worked as a commercial clerk in Munich.

An investigation by the Hamburg public prosecutor's office against him was discontinued on June 8, 1967, as the investigations did not provide sufficient grounds for an indictment to be brought.
