Josef Steiner (politician, 1926)

Josef Steiner (born September 3, 1926 in Altenmarkt im Pongau ; † July 24, 1990 there ) was an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ) and farmer. From 1963 to 1982 he was a member of the Austrian National Council .

Steiner attended elementary school and from 1942 to 1943 graduated from the Winklhof agricultural college in Oberalm . Between 1943 and 1945 he served in the Reich Labor Service or in military service and was also in the police prison for political reasons for five months during the rule of the National Socialists and received one year in prison for high treason. After the end of the war, Steiner attended the agricultural college in Rotholz and ran a lease business between 1952 and 1957. He then took over his parents' farm in Eisenhof (Altenmarkt im Pongau) in 1957. In 1978 he was awarded the professional title of Economics Council.

Steiner was involved in the farmers 'union, was local farmer chairman and between 1965 and 1985 he held the position of regional chairman of the Salzburg farmers' union. In 1959 Steiner was elected to the Altenmarkt municipal council, and between 1964 and 1989 he was the municipality's vice mayor. In addition, Steiner became involved as a chamber councilor from 1962 and as a member of the board of the Chamber of Agriculture and Forestry in Salzburg from 1965 and was deputy state hunter of Salzburg between 1967 and 1987. Steiner represented the ÖVP in the National Council between April 3, 1963 and April 15, 1982.
