Josef Taucher (born March 11, 1967 in Graz ) is an Austrian politician ( Social Democratic Party of Austria ) and clinical and health psychologist. He was a member of the Federal Council from 2012 to 2014 and has been a member of the Vienna State Parliament and a member of the Vienna City Council since 2014 . In June 2018 he was elected SPÖ club chairman in Vienna, and in September 2018 he succeeded Christian Oxonitsch in this function.

education and profession

Taucher attended elementary school in Flöcking from 1973 to 1977 and then continued his education at the Bundesrealgymnasium in Gleisdorf from 1977 . He completed his school education in 1985 with the Matura and from 1986 studied psychology at the University of Vienna . In 1992 he completed his studies with a graduate degree . nat. from. From 1993 to 1995 he also completed the university course in "Clinical Psychologist" and "Health Psychologist" at the University of Vienna and from 1994 to 1995 he did his community service .

After graduating from high school, Taucher worked from 1985 to 1986 as a construction-related worker as a truck driver and construction fitter at Tieber KG in Peggau , after which he completed a voluntary psychological internship at the outpatient department of the psychiatric university clinic at Vienna General Hospital from 1987 to 1989. From 1994 to 1995 he was a clinical psychologist and health psychologist at the University Clinic for Paediatrics and Adolescent Medicine in Graz and between 1995 and 1998 he worked in youth work in the Association of Youth Centers of the City of Vienna. From 1998 to 2000 he then took over the management and construction of a neighborhood center for the Vienna aid organization. He then worked from 2000 to 2002 as a management consultant at ÖSB-Unternehmensberatung Ges.mbH in the project management of the "Job Training" program. Between 2003 and 2009 he was also the deputy managing director of the association "Local Agenda 21 in Vienna for the promotion of Citizen Participation Processes ". Taucher has been the scientific project manager for the implementation of the Austrian sustainability strategy since 2010 and Secretary General of the Eco-Social Forum Vienna since 2011.

Politics and functions

Taucher worked as a district councilor in Vienna- Donaustadt between 2001 and 2006 and was deputy district chairman of Vienna-Donaustadt from 2006 to 2012. In 2006 he became a board member of the district executive committee of the SPÖ Vienna-Donaustadt and also in 2006 a member of the local district party presidency. He was elected to the Federal Council on November 22, 2012. On September 25, 2014, he succeeded Ernst Nevrivy in the Vienna State Parliament and City Council.

Taucher was Deputy Section Chairman of Section 10 from 2007 to 2009 and has been Deputy Chairman of Volkshilfe Donaustadt since 2008. He is also the deputy chairman of the VHS Donaustadt, member of the board of trustees of the HTL Donaustadt and since 2009 chairman of the section 7 (Süßenbrunn).
