Christian Oxonitsch (born December 21, 1961 in Vienna ) is an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) and was the city ​​councilor for education, youth, information and sport from 2009 to 2015 . On November 18, 2015 he was elected (for the second time) head of the SPÖ municipal council club in Vienna . On April 24, 2018, Oxonitsch announced his resignation as SPÖ club chairman after he had been considered a replacement candidate for a long time. In June 2018 Josef Taucher was elected as his successor as SPÖ club chairman, in September 2018 Taucher Oxonitsch succeeded him in this position. Oxonitsch is still chairman of the SPÖ Ottakring and local council.

School and professional career

Christian Oxonitsch comes from a caretaker family and first attended elementary school in Julius-Meinl-Gasse and then graduated from AHS Maroltingergasse in Vienna- Ottakring . He was head boy here and finished school with the Matura . Oxonitsch then did his community service in childcare and then studied history and German for a few semesters. During his studies, Oxonitsch worked for the Austrian Children's Friends as an educational assistant.

Political career

Christian Oxonitsch was elected federal chairman of the Red Falcons Austria in 1986 and was district councilor in Ottakring from 1991. In January 1996 he became a member of the Viennese state parliament and member of the municipal council , but after the election on October 13, 1996 he left the state parliament and municipal council. Christian Oxonitsch became involved again as a district councilor and was chairman of the district development commission. Between 1992 and 1997 he was secretary of the SPÖ Ottakring and was elected chairman of the Ottakring SPÖ in September 1997. In June 1997 Oxonitsch moved back into the state parliament and local council and from 1998 was a member of the council committee for housing, housing and urban renewal. From April 20, 2001 to March 2009 and a second time from November 2015 to the end of August 2018, Oxonitsch was chairman of the Vienna SPÖ municipal council club .

From November 26, 2007 to November 16, 2011 he was President of the Association of Austrian Public Economics and Community (VÖWG) . In this function he replaced Caspar Eine . On November 16, 2011, he handed over this function to Renate Brauner .

With effect from March 26, 2009 Oxonitsch became the leading city councilor for education, youth, information and sport of the City of Vienna, replacing Grete Laska in this office . He remained a city councilor until the 2015 election.

Oxonitsch has been federal chairman of the Austrian Children's Friends since October 8, 2011 , and in this position he is the successor of Josef Ackerl .

Private

Christian Oxonitsch has a daughter (* 2003) and was married to the Vienna City Councilor Ulli Sima until 2008 .
