Josef Weigl

Josef Weigl , MSC (born May 16, 1913 in Neunburg vorm Wald , † February 4, 1985 in Immenstadt im Allgäu ) was a German clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Bokungu-Ikela .

Life

Josef Weigl attended the private high school of the Sacred Heart Missionaries in Liefering / Salzburg and then studied at the University of Innsbruck . In 1930 he entered the order of the Sacred Heart Missionaries and made his profession in 1931 . He was ordained a priest on July 11, 1937 . Missionary work in New Guinea for 15 years followed . During the Second World War he was interned by the Japanese for two years.

Pope John XXIII appointed him on September 11, 1961 bishop of Bokungu in the Congo. The Archbishop of Coquilhatville Hilaire Marie Vermeiren , MSC donated him episcopal ordination on November 12 of the same year ; Co-consecrators were Josef Hiltl , auxiliary bishop in Regensburg , and Johannes Neuhäusler , auxiliary bishop in Munich and Freising. In 1982 he resigned from office for health reasons.
