Josef Weißkind

Josef Weißkind (born February 6, 1914 in Salzburg ; † January 29, 1977 there ) was an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) and businessman. He was a member of the Salzburg state parliament and state councilor in the Salzburg state government .

education and profession

Weißkind attended elementary and community school in Salzburg and then completed a commercial apprenticeship. He worked as a clerk and decorator until 1939, after which he was arrested after the National Socialists came to power in 1938 and expelled from the city of Salzburg. He then attended the advertising school in Berlin and served from 1939 to 1945 in World War II. In 1945 he was taken prisoner of war. After his return from captivity, Weißkind worked in the GEWA department store in Salzburg in 1945, and in 1946 he opened a sports shop in Salzburg. In 1954 he founded another business with the opening of "Ryska Moden" in Salzburg.

Politics and functions

Weißkind was active as chairman of the Socialist Youth in Salzburg from 1928 until the Social Democratic Party was banned in 1934, and in 1947 he took over the role of SPÖ section chairman in Gstättenviertel in the city of Salzburg. At the state level he was a member of the state party executive from 1948 to 1974, and from 1970 to 1972 he was a member of the state party presidency. He held his highest internal party function from 1966 to 1972 as deputy state party chairman of the SPÖ Salzburg, and from 1967 to 1970 he was a member of the SPÖ federal party executive.

Weißkind was also active in party-affiliated organizations and between 1951 and 1960 led the Salzburg Children's Friends as regional chairman . In addition, he was regional chairman of the Free Trade Association from 1962 to 1967. As head of the leather goods and sporting goods trade and councilor of the Salzburg Chamber of Commerce, he was also involved in professional representation, from 1962 to 1968 he was vice-president of the Salzburg Civil Protection Association and from 1952 to 1977 vice-president of the Salzburg Red Cross. He was also a founding member of the Salzburger Volkshilfe in 1947, where he also held the position of Vice President until 1971. Furthermore, Weißkind was committed to sport and was President of ASKÖ Salzburg from 1952 to 1955 and from 1966 to 1969. He was also president of SV Casino Salzburg from 1968 to 1977 .

In 1946, Weißkind was a member of the Salzburg City Council and represented the SPÖ from July 29, 1946 to November 30, 1949 in the Salzburg state parliament. From July 14, 1949 to May 14, 1969 he was a member of the Salzburg provincial government as a member of the provincial government. In 1954 and 1958/59 he was a member of the Salzburg provincial parliament again for a few months. After he left the state government, Weißkind was also a member of the Salzburg state parliament from May 14, 1969 to May 26, 1971.
