Josef Wokral

Josef Wokral (born January 26, 1875 in Vienna , † April 2, 1926 in Steyr ) was an Austrian politician ( SDAP ). He acted as mayor of Steyr and a member of the Upper Austrian state parliament .

Life

Josef Wokral learned the belt trade and became a private employee of a health insurance company and union secretary of the metal workers' association and worked in Steyr from 1903 (?) 1908. In March 1911 he was elected to the town council of Steyr. After the World War he became deputy mayor of the city on November 23, 1918, and on April 7, 1919, succeeding Julius Gschaider, provisional mayor and on May 9, 1919, permanent mayor. Josef Wokral was mayor of Steyr until his untimely death .

Josef Wokral founded the Flamme association to build a crematorium with an urn cemetery at Tabor in Steyr, but did not live to see the completion. After Josef Wokral's death, the body was transferred from the hospital to the Steyr town hall and laid out. A delegation from the Republican Protection Association held the honor guard for two days while the population said goodbye. The funeral on April 5, 1926 took place from the town hall to the train station. The body was cremated in the Simmering fire hall in Vienna, and the urn was later buried in the urn cemetery at Tabor in Steyr.
