Josef von Mader
Josef Mader , from 1815 by Mader (born September 8, 1754 in Vienna , † December 25, 1815 in Prague ) was a lawyer and numismatist .
Live and act
He was the son of the sculptor Johann Christoph Mader († 1761). In 1779 Mader became Professor of Law at Charles University in Prague . In 1803 Mader and his son-in-law Joseph Löhner bought the Fideikommissgut Rostok with Lichtendorf from the Princes of Liechtenstein . Four years later, he sold half of the property to Löhner.
Mader studied medieval coins in depth . He thus became the real creator of critical numismatics . His main works are the critical contributions to the coinage of the Middle Ages . The 6 volumes were published from 1803–1811 by the Haase publishing house in Prague.
After his death, P. v. Mader compiled a sales catalog for 10,380 coins from all epochs and countries from the collection of the founder of critical coin research. The summary list of the pieces and the coins and writings in the coin collection of the knight J. von Mader was published in Prague in 1818 .
