Kilpinen made her debut in the Freestyle World Cup on November 30, 2002 in Tignes . In the first ski cross world cup race in history, she finished 9th. The first podium placement followed on January 18, 2004 when she came second in Laax . In the same season, two more second places followed, with a total of seven top 10 placements, she classified fourth in the discipline ranking. A 4th place was Kilpinen's best result in the 2004/05 World Cup season. At the Winter Universiade 2005 in Innsbruck she won the silver medal behind Karin Huttary , at the 2005 World Championships in Ruka she finished 9th. In February 2006, she achieved a World Cup podium for the last time, and one month later she ended her sports career.
