Josefina Lavalle

Josefina Lavalle (born January 29, 1924 in the Federal District ; † May 25, 2009 ibid) was a Mexican ballet dancer , choreographer and former ballet director.

Life

Lavalle learned classical and folk ballet at the Escuela Nacional de Danza with Nellie and Gloria Campobello . She became a member of the Ballet de Bellas Artes ( Ballet of Fine Arts ), then under the direction of Waldeen . Together with the choreographer Anna Sokolow she recognized her talent for modern dance. She first came into contact with Limón in 1952 during a choreography course for young ballet dancers.

In 1948 she founded the Mexican National Ballet together with Guillermina Bravo in Mexico City . On January 19, 2008, the artist, who had already won several awards, was awarded the “ José Limón ” medal by the Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes y Literatura (INBAL) in the Palacio de Bellas Artes .

1955 it transferred Carlos Chavez function as a prima ballerina and choreographer of the Academia de la Danza Mexicana ( Academy of Mexican dance ). In 1961 he discovered Lavalle's talent while working with the Ballet de Bellas Artes on "Misa brevis". From 1959 to 1969 and again from 1972 to 1978 she directed the Academia de la Danza Mexicana herself . She died in 2009 at the age of 85.
