Josefina Vannini , Italian Giuseppina Vannini , maiden name Judith Vannini or Giuditta Vannini (* July 7, 1859 in Rome , † February 23, 1911 there ) was an Italian religious sister and the founder of the Congregation of the Daughters of St. Chamomile . She is venerated as a saint in the Roman Catholic Church .

Life

Judith Vannini grew up in poor conditions and was an orphan from an early age. At times she lived in an orphanage . Very early on she felt the desire to become a nun. After she entered the motherhouse of the daughters of Caritas in Siena at a young age , she soon had to leave the postulate for health reasons. A few years later, on May 6, 1884, she began the postulate in the same house, but had to leave it again on June 25, 1888.

Together with Father Luigi Tezza OSCam , she founded the female branch of the Camillian Order on February 2, 1892 . The congregation, which requires its members to take vows of poverty, celibacy, availability in obedience, and service to the sick even at the risk of their own lives, grew rapidly. At the time of Josefina Vannini's death, there were 126 sisters in ten houses. On October 16, 1994 Pope John Paul II beatified Sr. Josefina in Rome . As part of the subsequent canonization process, Pope Francis recognized a miracle attributed to her intercession on May 13, 2019. The canonization was canonized by Pope Francis on October 13, 2019 in Rome.
