Josefine Nettesheim (born June 28, 1895 in Cologne , † September 2, 1988 in Havixbeck ) was a German literary scholar who dealt in particular with Annette von Droste-Hülshoff .

Life

After attending the lyceum , the upper lyceum and the teacher’s seminar, Josefine Nettesheim studied German, English and biology, as well as taking courses in philosophy and theology. With a thesis on Samuel Taylor Coleridge she received her doctorate in Bonn in 1922 under Wilhelm Dibelius . She then entered the higher education service and continued to write smaller contributions to the literature of the early 19th century. After 22 years in school, in 1944 she was given early retirement for health reasons, after which she moved from Cologne to Münster.

Through the mediation of the Franciscan Father Cornelius Schröder , Nettesheim in Münster became aware of the work of Annette von Droste-Hülshoff, which shaped her further life. She published numerous works on Droste and her contemporaries Christoph Bernhard Schlueter , Luise Hensel and Wilhelm Junkmann . The bibliography, published in the Droste Society's yearbook on her 75th birthday, already comprised around 60 titles.

Josefine Nettesheim died at the age of 93 in the Marienstift Droste zu Hülshoff in Havixbeck.

Membership in scientific and literary associations

From 1951 to 1977 Nettesheim was a board member of the Droste Society , then an honorary member. The Historical Commission for Westphalia appointed her a corresponding member in 1972. In the Görres Society she was a member of the advisory board.
