Josep Guinovart i Bertran (born March 20, 1927 in Barcelona ; † December 12, 2007 there ) was a Spanish painter and graphic artist .

Life

Josep Guinovart attended the "Escuela de Maestros Pintores" from 1941, then the art school in Barcelona and Paris. After his return he lived in Agramunt near Lleida .

In 1948, along with artists such as Joan Miró and Antoni Tàpies, he co-founded the Catalan artist group “ Dau al Set ”, an avant-garde movement during the dictatorial regime of Francisco Franco .

He died of a heart attack.

Act

Guinovart was considered one of the most important abstract artists of the post-war period in Spain. He became internationally known for his large-scale wall paintings and collages.

His works have also been exhibited in Europe, the United States, and Latin America. Most of his works are in the "Espai Guinovart de Agramunt" museum, which opened in 1994 in Agramunt, Catalonia.

In 1987 he was awarded by the Confederación Española de Organizaciones Empresariales (CEOE). In 1992 he presented his work at the Catalan stand at EXPO 92 in Seville . Also in 1992 the Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria showed a comprehensive exhibition of his work. In 1997 an exhibition about his life's work followed in the Cuartel del Conde-Duque in Madrid and in 2002 in the “Pedrera” in Barcelona.
