Joseph Baierlein

Joseph Baierlein (born January 21, 1839 in Waldsassen , † 1919 in Cologne ) was a German writer .

Life

Baierlein attended university after graduating from high school and then took a position in the judiciary, which he gave up in 1860. He went to Italy and joined the army of King Francis II of Naples as a volunteer . After the army was disbanded in 1861, Baierlein went to Malta and North Africa and later toured France , Denmark , Austria as well as North and South Africa. The experiences in these countries formed the basis for his later writing activity. Baierlein finally settled in Vilseck and moved to Switzerland with his family in 1874 . In 1890 he moved to Aschaffenburg and after 1913 went to Cologne, where he died in 1919.

Baierlein wrote local literature, fiction and youth literature and worked as a journalist. His daughter Marie Baierlein also became a writer.
