Joseph Dionys Herald
Joseph Dionys Herold (born August 15, 1829 in Neckarsulm , † March 30, 1898 in Würzburg ) was a Catholic clergyman, theologian and religious poet.
He was the son of a Neckarsulm fruit dealer and studied theology in Tübingen . In 1852 he was ordained a priest and then worked as a Catholic pastor in Braunsbach, Hirschau and Apfelbach. In 1864 he published a volume of poetry with the title Marienharfe . His award song Come Christians, Come to Praise, May is Newly Awakened was included in the hymn book of the Diocese of Rottenburg . His work A Pious Year contains Christian poems for every day of the church year, his work Sabbath Sounds is a poetic adaptation of the Gospels. He had his retirement home in Würzburg. He was buried in his birthplace Neckarsulm.
