Pierre François Joseph Durutte (born July 14, 1767 in Douai , Département Nord , † August 18, 1827 in Ypres ) was a count and French Général de division .

Life

He joined the French army in 1792, rose quickly from level to level in the following campaigns of the republic, mostly employed in the general staff, and was promoted to Général de division by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1803 and appointed commander of the 10th military division in Toulouse .

He took part in the campaigns against Austria in Italy, distinguished himself especially in 1809 under the viceroy Eugen at Sacile and at Raab . For his achievements in the campaign of 1809 he was raised to the baron of the empire. In 1819 he acted as governor of Amsterdam and was given the task of securing the North Sea coast there. After his appointment as city commander of Berlin , he commanded an additional division in the Russian campaign of 1812 in the Saxon VII Corps under General Reynier . He recorded in 1813 at the battle of Lutzen (May 2) and Bautzen (May 20), took to the unfortunate company Ney against Berlin (September 6) and at the Battle of Leipzig (16 - 19 October) part. When retreating from Germany he led part of the barrier guard , rescued almost the entire French artillery near Freiburg and then put Metz in a state of defense.

After the restoration , Louis XVIII appointed him . 1814 as commander of the 3rd military division in Metz; Regardless of this, Durutte declared himself after Napoléon's return for the same, received the command of the 4th division in the army corps Jean Baptiste Drouets and fought at Waterloo (June 18, 1815). After the arrival of the Prussian Zieten Corps , the front of its division was torn up by enemy cavalry. Durutte suffered severe wounds from saber blows by enemy riders in one hand and head. After the second restoration, he was unemployed. He died on August 18, 1827 in Ypres.
