Joseph François Paris , actually Giuseppe Francesco Troncossi (born February 4, 1784 in Naples , † 1871 ), was a French painter with Italian roots.

Life and works

Paris was a student of Nicolas Gosse , Mortelèque and Jean-Victor Bertin . He worked mainly in Vincennes . As a naturalized Frenchman, he had adopted a French name.

Joseph François Paris created animal and landscape paintings as well as still lifes . He also created miniature pictures and portraits, such as a likeness of Victor Hugo . He worked in oils and pastels and also painted on porcelain . Paris exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1824 to 1870 and received a bronze medal there in 1835.

Works by the artist found their way into museums in Cambrai , La Rochelle and Troyes .
