Life

Origin and family

Joseph Franz Caspar Maria von Weichs zu Körtlinghausen came as the son of Friedrich Ernst von Weichs zu Körtlinghausen (* 1710, chief hunter in Cologne ) and his wife Maria Anna von Brabeck zu Schellenstein (former canoness in Nottuln ) of a Westphalian noble family . He was the nephew of the canons Philipp Franz von Weichs and Wilhelm Joseph von Weichs .

Act

In 1773, Franz Joseph received by waiving the his uncle William Joseph Münstersche Dompräbende . He is mentioned as a canon in Paderborn in 1777. His brother-in-law Joseph Clemens von Plettenberg , who was married to Joseph's sister Maria Theresia (1748–1796) for the second time, urged him to renounce the prebend in favor of a member of the Austrian side on the occasion of the upcoming coadjutor election in 1780 . Contrary to what Plettenberg had wished, the prebend was transferred to Franz Wilhelm von Spiegel . In 1788 Joseph Franz married the baroness Maria Franziska von Fürstenberg . After the resignation, Joseph Franz became chief hunter in Cologne . His marriage remained childless, so that he was the last of the line from Weichs to Körtlinghausen . Körtlinghausen Castle came into the possession of the Barons von Fürstenberg in 1830 .
