Joseph J. Thomas

Joseph J. Thomas (born April 20, 1920 in Cologne ) is a former German ambassador .

Life

Joseph J. Thomas graduated from high school in Cologne and is married. He was engaged in military and military service from 1938 to 1945. From 1945 to 1951 he studied English , American , German and philosophy at the Universities of Cologne , Zurich and Carleston, USA. In 1952, Thomas joined the foreign service . From 1952 to 1955 he was accredited as a second class secretary at the German Embassy in Washington, DC and from 1955 to 1957 at the Consulate General in New York City . From 1958 to 1961 Thomas was Deputy Head of the USA, Canada Department at the Foreign Office in Bonn. From 1961 to 1966, Thomas founded and directed the German Information Center in New York City. From 1966 to 1969 he was accredited in the press department of the German embassy in Washington DC. From 1971 to 1973 Thomas headed the USA, Canada, United Kingdom, Nordic States, Ireland, Switzerland and Austria unit. From July 1973 to August 1978 he was head of the foreign department in the Federal Government's Press and Information Office .
