Jesco Carl Eugen Hans Feodor Imbert Holger Gustav Freiherr von Puttkamer (born February 20, 1919 in Neustrelitz , † January 5, 1987 in Oberaudorf ) was a German journalist and diplomat .

Life

Jesco von Puttkamer, son of the lieutenant general Jesco von Puttkamer of the same name , graduated from high school in 1936 and then joined the Wehrmacht . As a first lieutenant in the armored force, he took part in the Second World War and was awarded EK I and II. In 1943 he was taken prisoner by the Soviets near Stalingrad .

In 1944 as a Soviet prisoner of war, Puttkamer joined the National Committee for Free Germany . After his dismissal in 1947, he worked for various newspapers, from 1958 he was editor-in-chief of Vorwärts . Joined the SPD in 1957 , Puttkamer was ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Israel from 1971 , then to Yugoslavia (1975), Portugal (1979) and Sweden (1981).
