Johann Joseph Kenn

Johann Joseph Kenn (also: Jean-Joseph Kenn ; born September 21, 1757 in Dietrichingen ; † February 14, 1840 in Fontainebleau ) was a German horn player , composer and professor of horn.

Kenn came from Zweibrücken , where he was born in 1757 as the son of the tailor Johann Christian Kenn and his wife Anna Maria. Presumably he was tutored by Ludwig Wenzel Lachnith and possibly worked in the court chapel. In 1782 he went to Paris and soon had a reputation as one of the best deep horn players. From 1783 he was second horn player at the " Grand Opéra " in Paris. He taught at the Conservatoire de Paris from 1795 to 1802, including Louis François Dauprat (1781 to 1868). He died on February 14, 1840 in Fontainebleau, France.

His extant oeuvre as a composer includes duos for horn and clarinet, 25 duos for two horns, 36 trios for three horns. 24 of the horn trios appeared in 1797 in the "Recueil d'airs" collection (reprinted 1808).
