Joseph Kohnen

Joseph (Nicolas Pierre) Kohnen (born October 25, 1940 in the Luxembourg CdZ area ; † March 2, 2015 ) was a Luxembourg philologist . He dealt with the cultural and intellectual history of the Albertus University in Königsberg (Prussia) .

Life

Kohnen was born the son of the photographer Pierre Kohnen and the Hungarian ballerina Etelka Piroska Sramkó. From 1946 to 1954 he attended the primary school of the Grand Duchy, from 1954 to 1961 the ancient language Athenaeum, the Greco-Latin grammar school of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg ( Études secondaires ). From 1961 to 1965 he studied literature , German , Latin and Greek in Luxembourg and at the University of Nancy , at the Sorbonne and at the University of Bonn ( Études supérieurs ). In 1965 he received his doctorate in philosophy and German, Latin and Greek literary studies . From 1965 to 1966 he served in the Luxembourg army. In 1972 he became a doctor of the University of Nancy II .

From 1976 he was a lecturer and from 1979 professor for German studies at the Center Universitaire de Luxembourg . In 1982 he completed his habilitation at the University of Nancy II ( Docteur d'État ) after no German university had expressed interest in the Königsberg subject. From 1986 to 1988 he was a lecturer at the Saarland University . From 1988 he was a member of the Institut Grand-Ducal , Section des Arts et des Lettres (Academy of Sciences). From 1990 he was a permanent visiting professor at the University of Kaliningrad . In 1995 he was awarded the Prix ​​Spécial Servais . From 2003 to 2008 he was a professor at the University of Luxembourg .
