Joseph Louis Marie Andlauer (born May 19, 1869 in Fontenay-le-Vicomte , † February 7, 1956 in Paris ) was a French general and chief employer of the French military administration of the Saar region in 1918/19 .

Life

Andlauer's father was the organist of the Catholic Church in Andlau in Alsace , where the family home is located. Andlauer attended the Saint-Cyr Military School from 1887 to 1889 . On October 1, 1889, he began his military career as a sub-lieutenant in the marine infantry . In the 1890s he served in Sudan , then in the 2nd regiment of the Tirailleurs sénégalais . In the following years he rose continuously. With the start of the war in 1914 he was in command of the 305th Infantry Regiment, and from November 1914 to June 1916 he was Brigadier General in command of the 126th Infantry Brigade. He rose to division general and was during the Battle of Verdun from June 20, 1916 to July 2, 1917 commander of the 63rd Infantry Division on the eastern Meuse section. Between December 12, 1917 and February 1919, he finally commanded the 18th Infantry Division. During the Meuse-Argonne offensive in the XVII. Subordinated to the Corps (under General Henri Claudel), on October 8, 1918, he covered the right wing of the 29th US Division breaking across the Meuse near Consenvoye .

After the First World War Andlauer was appointed Colonel-General conveyed. From February 17, 1919 to November 20, 1919, Andlauer was then head of the French military administration in the Saar region ("Administrateur supérieur de la Sarre"). Between June 4, 1929 and July 2, 1930 he was commander of the XXXII. Corps. After the Second World War , Andlauer was back in the Saar region: In May 1946 he was President of the “Association française de la Sarre”.
