Ernst Joseph Nordgren (born November 16, 1947 in Örebro ) is a Swedish physicist .

Nordgren received his B.Sc. from Uppsala University in 1971 and received a PhD in physics in 1977. From 1979 he worked as a lecturer and since 1988 he has held a physics chair for soft X-rays . Since July 1, 2008, Nordgren has also been Vice Rector of the Science and Engineering Department at Uppsala University.

Nordgren has been a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences since 1996 and was a member of the Nobel Prize Committee for Physics from 2001 to 2009 , of which he was chairman from 2008 to 2009. He remains since 1981 a member of the Royal Society of Sciences and Letters in Uppsala, and since 2005 a member of the Royal Society of Sciences in Uppsala .
