Joseph Pradel (born June 29, 1888 in Bergbrück-Tasdorf , Niederbarnim district , † February 17, 1967 in Aachen ) was a German politician of the Center Party .

Live and act

Pradel attended elementary school in Staßfurt in the district of Kalbe and the grammar school in Erfurt . He studied history, English, German, Latin and religion at the Philosophical-Theological Faculty in Paderborn and at the universities in Münster , Jena and Göttingen . Later he passed the state exams for higher teaching and completed a year of preparation at the grammar school in Erfurt. He then worked as a teacher in Heiligenstadt.

In 1914, Pradel went to the First World War as a war volunteer . He was seriously wounded in the fighting at Le Maisnil and was taken prisoner by the English. In 1916 he was exchanged for Switzerland as a seriously wounded man . On behalf of the German legation, Pradel founded a German private school in Bern . After his return to Germany in 1918, he worked as a teacher at the Realgymnasium in Magdeburg . This was followed by teaching activities at the upper lyceum of the school sisters in Heiligenstadt and, from 1922, at the state advanced school in Heiligenstadt. In addition, he made a trip to Great Britain to study the conditions there.

After the war, Pradel also began to become more involved in the Catholic Center Party . He became chairman of the center in Thuringia and a member of the Reichsparteiaommittee of the center party as well as board member of the Prussian regional association of the party. In the general election of July 1932, Pradel was a candidate of his party for the constituency 12 (Thuringia) in the Reichstag voted, of which he was subsequently until November 1933rd The most important parliamentary event in which Pradel took part during his time as a member of parliament was the passage of the Enabling Act , which was also passed with Pradel's vote.
